Joe is a Vascular and Trauma Surgeon at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He completed his training in General and Vascular Surgery in the U.K. and prior to moving to Australia was Trauma Fellow and Consultant at the Royal London Hospital.
After his research MD at St George’s Hospital London, he completed a Masters with a dissertation on Trauma Systems and continues his research interests as Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide.
He is Secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Surgery of Trauma and member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) Trauma Committee SA, RACS Road Trauma Advisory Subcommittee and RACS Trauma Quality Improvement Subcommittee, Australasian Trauma Society and Endovascular Resuscitation and Trauma Management Society.
He is a member of the Academy of Surgical Educators (RACS), Faculty of Surgical Trainers (RCSEd), Section of Academic Surgery (RACS) and Associate Member of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. He teaches on several trauma skills courses including Pre-Hospital & Emergency Resuscitative Thoracotomy (RCSEng), Damage Control Trauma Surgery, Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposures in Trauma (ASSET) and Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC), and is contributing author to the DSTC Manual. He teaches on the Royal Adelaide Hospital ED REBOA and Thoracotomy Workshop and was member of the RAH Protocol Working Party Committee for REBOA in Trauma.
